Wes Morgan signs his Futera UNIQUE cards!

In August, we made the trip to St George’s Park in search of fresh on-card autographs!

After acquiring signatures from both Paul Parker and Shaun Wright-Phillips recently, we had our eyes set onto another target - a Premier League winning captain.

Wes Morgan became the latest to join the list of superstars that will appear in the coming Futera UNIQUE collection…

To put it simply, Morgan’s achievements at Leicester will be etched into football folklore forever.

The ex-Jamaican international led his club side to the impossible in the 2015/16 season, taking them from relegation fodder to Premier League champions within twelve months.

Leicester were tipped at odds of 5000/1 to triumph seven years ago and Claudio Ranieri was the man who guided their greatness in his inaugural season.

Morgan went on to do what most dream of with the Foxes. He made it all the way to the quarter final of the Champions League in the 2016/17 season as City topped their group and knocked out Spanish giants Sevilla to get there.

They then came face to face with more Spanish behemoths as a tough tie against Atletico Madrid beckoned. Leicester fell to a narrow defeat against Simeone’s side, losing 2-1 on aggregate.

However, this was certainly not Morgan’s last chance for more silverware in a Foxes shirt. The Jamaican defender ended up lifting the trophy when they won the 2021 FA Cup in his left game for the club. A perfect send off.

Morgan’s reflections

When we spoke with Wes, he reflected mainly on his early days at Leicester and the relationships that he built when he joined the club ten years ago.

When asked about his favourite person to grace the Foxes’ dugout, he immediately spoke of his close friendship with Nigel Pearson. Morgan loved his traditional approach and admired his man-management skills.

Another that the 38-year-old still speaks to nowadays is former defensive partner Danny Simpson. The full back joined the club two years after Morgan, and they sat beside one another in the dressing room for five years.
